FAQ

1. What is a Web Start Page?
Think of a Web Start Page as the First Page that appears when you access the internet (usually through Internet Explorer, FireFox or Safari). Your Startpage can give you "1-click" access to YOUR favorite places in an attractive, custom-looking webpage. You can even access YOUR WebStartPage from any computer (friend's computer, hotel computer, public access computer) that has internet access!

2. How many websites are available for me to select from? Are there a lot?
Right now there are over 900 of the most popular websites that you can select for your WebStartPage. More are being added every day. Also, if there is a website that you would like that ISN'T in our database, you can add it manually - or email us with your request. It will be added within 24 hours (as long as it meets the Terms of Service / TOS requirements).
3. Are StartPages easy enough for a child to use???
YES - Absolutely. In fact, that was the idea behind the design of MyWebStartPage.com. The developer has 3 children (age 4, 6 and 7) who all have their own startpages that require NO adult assistance!

4. Is there a StartPage that works for a family computer with several users?
Yes - absolutely! A "Gold Membership" entitles you to set up a Family-type StartPage. The first page is simply photos of various family members. When you "click on the picture" up pops the WebStartPage associated with that person. Click here for a Family StartPage Example.
5. Is there a way to get new tabs to open up my StartPage instead of a blank page? I use Internet Explorer...
Yes - This is controlled within Internet Explorer - and not by MyWebStartPage. Just open up the "Tools" Menu and select "Internet Options". Click on "Settings" in the Tabs section. Click on "Open Home page for New Tabs instead of a blank page". Then click "Ok" and "OK" to exit. The new settings will take effect the next time you use Internet Explorer.
6. I have dozens of websites that I use - can I set my startpage to show various website categories?
Yes - A "Gold Membership" entitles you to set up a StartPage that has Categories that you identify and upload a picture to represent various topics (e.g. Banking, Email, News, Shopping, etc.). Each category will then represent a separate Startpage when "clicked". Here is an example. If you like the example, you can download the associated picture files here!
7. Can I change the photos (pictures) that shows up in the Family Startpage (Main Page)?
Yes, of course! All you need to do is:
1) Click on "Customize" when viewing the Main Startpage (the page that shows the family members).
2) Navigate to Step 3 by clicking "Next" and "Next"...
3) Then single-click on the photo of the family members pic you want to replace. The screen will refresh, and the name & photo should appear above.
4) Browse to find and open the new photo you'd like to use.
5) Click "Save"
6) Repeat for each family member you'd like to have photo replacements for.
7) Click "Finish" when complete
When you return to the Startpage, you may need to refresh the screen (or click F5) for the changes to be seen.
8. Can I select my own background for my WebStartPage?
Yes, if you have a Gold Account with MyWebStartPage.com. You can either upload it manually (which is a bit tricky as it requires a 1600 x 1200 pixel file), or email us with the jpg file, and we will add it to the Theme Background list within 24 hours. Then you can select it for your background!
9. After I add a "New" website -- some of them get deleted -- How come?
Most of the time, when a website that you've added gets deleted -- its because you added a website that was already in the system (database). Be sure to look for the website, (use the Category Search, or Text Search) in Step-4 before you try to add it manually.
The reason the site you added has to be deleted, is that we don't want multiple entries in the system for the same thing -- otherwise, we would have 100 Google.com entries, 100 Yahoo.com entries, etc..., and that doesn't make any sense! Sorry if this is frustrating -- but be sure to look for the site you want to add before you Enter it Manually.
